This passage relates to me about serving the Lord and fullfiling His will. Yesterday, Pastor Judah and Xiao Wen preached about answering God's calling and grew in it. I think this verses really spoke to me.

"I have served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of Jews" - Acts 20:19

"However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me.........." - Acts 20:24

KLCC - The pride of Malaysia

Yesterday night, KLCC was on Discovery channel. I watched how the plan of KLCC started and how it was actually constructed. I was kind of amazed at KLCC as we looked up and how high it could be and standing on the link bridge, looking down - the view was breathtaking. But honestly, I've never been very fascinated with KLCC, i thought it was just another tower built to make Malaysia more well-known around the world. But, watching the documentary yesterday gave me a new sense about KLCC.

It was planned in 1993, that time I didn't even know they were going to built the tower! Or maybe I don't remember. It was suppose to be a big thing around the country. Our very own Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir propose the plan and find the architect, constructors and engineers to make the plan work. Dr. Mahathir came up with the concept that the tower has to incorporate characteristics of Malaysia. Which means, Islamic architecture but still, modern. It took a long time for the architect to research and to come up with the right shape for the two towers. Eventually, after much rejection from Dr. Mahathir on the shape, he did a rough sketch of his idea. But, still it's not workable, only after much experiments and brainstorming, the ideal shape was finally approved.

I couldn't describe the whole documentary as how they built the towers, but I can tell you that it was hard work - harder than I could've ever imagined. The constructors had to endure a lot of problems during the process, such as the weather (raining makes the work really hard and messy), the materials, the soils and land - everything eventually has problem and they had to think of solutions. And it's not easy - these problems are not common, they had to make lots of experiments to make it work. The most interesting fact is, you know what - KLCC is made of concretes and not steel!! Most towers around the world were made of steels and because Malaysia lack of materials and tight on budget, experiments with mix of materials were conducted to provide the most stabilized concrete to support the weight of the towers.

The problems they faced is endless, because of the unique shape of the towers, they had to think of how to put in elevators for the 88 floors. And they had to think of fire escape, they also had to think if KLCC is stabil enough to endure bombs. Because sometime during the year of 1995, a building in New York was bombed and it collapsed. And another building was on fire and because of unplanned fire escape, some people were trapped. These incidents made the engineers into deeper thoughts of keeping KLCC and the people safe. The link bridge was another major difficulty... it was heavy and they could only lift it up millimeters by millimeters, it hung halfway because of the rain.

The towers were completed in 6 years time. It is a shorter time compared to other towers that normally would've taken 8 years! Because of budget, it had to be completed in 6 years and they struggled and challenged to finish it on time. Work non-stop. No matter what, it has to be done, if not they would lost a lot of budget.

As I was watching the documentary, I couldn't take my eyes off it as I was truly fascinated at how the KLCC was built after much difficulties!! It would've wrecked my brain working and thinking like mad! The shape of KLCC is unique compared to other skyscrapers I've seen. It really opened my eyes and this has definitely made me look at KLCC with higher respect and the people behind all that. Hats off! And I'm proud to have been on the link-bridge before. KLCC is the pride of Malaysia, and my pride, too. *winkz
